Onondaga is such a great community. We aren’t just a village we’re a family. In Onondaga we can just be ourselves. Everyone is always so nice when you’re new. When an Onondagan is homesick or having a bad day, the rest of the village is there to comfort her. We’re all just having a great time! It doesn’t matter if you’re with your bunk or someone younger…we’re all friends!

It has been only one week into camp and this year is starting off great. The first days are a little confusing but once you get into the groove of things it really starts to click. I don’t know what it is that brings me back every year but it must be something special. Camp is a place where you try new things, whether it is waterskiing or flirting with girls. It might not always work out but at least you tried. There are not many negative thoughts for me to say about this place. That’s what makes it great.

So far, this summer has been everything I was looking forward to and more. Although it has been extremely hot, the entire camp has made a tremendous effort to stay cool. Twice in a row, we had special afternoons to just swimming or relaxing in the shade. Seneca Soccer League (SSL) has begun and the entire village has gotten very excited about it! Everyone wants to win and it definitely shows on the field. I am really looking forward to what comes my way during these next few weeks!

Since I was a young camper my Tusc summer has been something I’ve continuously looked forward to. Although I’m only a week into my last summer as a camper, my expectations have already been surpassed. As the biggest Tusc ever, many people were worried about how close we would become, but the friendships I’ve made so far this summer I already know will last a lifetime. As an August camper, I hadn’t thought that July could compare, but the programs that the staff has put on for us this session have been incredible. The night before the fourth of July, the staff took Tusc on a trip to see fireworks at a Penn Yan carnival. I was amazed that within the first week of camp we were already getting into things that I would have imagined to be the highlights of the summer.

Camp is a very special place for me. It became my home away from home. For the past eight years it has been a yearly event that always happened. This year was said to be different. I am a senior camper this year. Last year many people told me that this year would be one to remember. I never really thought it would be much better, rather it would just be one with more freedoms and later curfews. Being told time and time again that it would be great, I became excited. My excitement became greater than any other summer before. Not knowing how though made me even more curious of camp. This was all answered in the first few days.

LIT is a program that is still proving itself not only to everyone in camp but to those of us in the program. No one knew what to expect the first few days, but our place in camp was solidified the very first night when we became the sixth village of Oneida. As a part of our program, we volunteered at Camp Good Days and Special Times. This made me realize what this village is all about. The following days were filed with activities with campers at Camp Good Days. In just one week, we were able to get to know the campers and become friends with their the staff and other volunteers. I learned a lot from both watching how the staff worked and by leading my campers who, incidentally, are the cutest seven girls ever! On the last day, our counselors told us how proud they were of our group and what we had done. This week was an amazing opportunity, and we are so lucky to be involved with this group.
