First Day

Look what’s coming down the road… Camp is full and it feels GREAT! This morning we welcomed 236 campers to CSL. Staff and campers could not possibly be more excited about the summer that lies ahead!

As a part of the first day’s activities, each camper unpacked and moved into his or her village, took a swim test, had a safety overview at the waterfront, met the Nurses at the infirmary, participated in a welcome meeting with director John Golden, and took a bunk and village picture (pictures will be uploaded shortly to Bunk1). This was a great opportunity for campers to familiarize themselves with different areas around camp and to learn about safety and the camp routine.

For the Evening Program, camp initially split up by village. Onondaga, Seneca and LITs participated in ice-breakers and bonding activities. Both Cayuga and Mohawk kicked off their respective leagues with tryouts for Cayuga Hockey League (“CHL”) and Mohawk National League (“MNL”). Our 53 Tuscacroran campers were driven by boat out into the middle of Seneca Lake. They jumped out of the boats into the lake (with life jackets on!) and grabbed hold of a large rope. Together as one, the senior campers swam to shore. This was the first of many activities that will serve to unify the Tusc 2010 campers and we are confident that they began their summer with a night that they will never forget!

Following village activities, CSL came together at the Fire Circle for the Summer 2010 Opening Ceremonies. Each village’s staff and staff from all specialty areas were introduced to the campers in costume – dancing, singing, running, and bellowing to their own song! Camp director John Golden made an extra special entrance. By means of jet ski, John drove in from the lake towards the Fire Circle and used the CSL torch to light the first official camp fire of the summer. The campers were roaring with excitement and we all participated in a sing-a-long to some of our favorite camp songs!

Our first day was an absolute success and we look forward to many more campfires, sing-a-longs, sports events, and bonding at Camp Seneca Lake.
