Onondogans and Cayugans... Meet your big siblings in Tusc!

At lunch this afternoon, when Onondaga and Cayuga discovered that they had canteen, shrills and shrieks of joy rang throughout the dining hall. What the youngest campers in camp did not know, was that their “big siblings” (the Senior Campers) would be waiting to meet them when they arrived at canteen this afternoon.

The big sibling/little sibling program is a longstanding tradition that was established at CSL in order to create bonds between the oldest and youngest campers in camp. Ask anyone who was here in Onondaga or Cayuga and they all remember he or she who was their older sibling, way back when! Today all sibling pairs were announced at canteen. The pairs stood in line together and after going through canteen, they ate together in the shade and got acquainted. At dinner, sibling pairs lined up together and ate a scrumptious meal of Fettuccini Alfredo, fresh vegetables, and chocolate pudding.

After the meal, the boys and girls split up to do separate activities. The Cayugans and Tuscaroran boys participated in a blindfolded trust walk. They marched up to Gypsy Camp, down to Cayuga, and then ended in Tusc which was a special surprise for the Cayugans, many of whom had never been in the village. The Onondogans and Tuscaroran girls went directly to Tusc for a spa night in the village. Big sisters worked on their little sisters, doing hair, makeup, nail polish, and a massage session. It was quite a hit and the younger girls were ecstatic as they were doted on by their big sisters! Finally, at the end of the evening, everyone met together by the T-Rec for a special treat – banana boats for snack! Everyone was excited and happy to be together. The Tusc campers did a phenomenal job of planning and executing this program. Together as a camp, we are committed to continuing to build on the bonds that were formed between sibling pairs this evening.
