Hello All!
July has been incredible for the village of Oneida. Our days have become increasingly busy throughout the course of the month. Each week, we discuss a topic that relates to leadership development. Thus far, we have talked about effective communication, conflict resolution, and social and emotional intelligence. Last week we also had an “intervention” with our drama directors to utilize some of these skills by employing acting tools. The LITs have really taken these lessons to heart in their daily camp lives, as well as in the realm of programming on Tikkun Olam Day. On CSL’s Mitzvah Day this summer when camp was repaired and beautified, the LITs played a major role as organizers. They each took charge of a station and gathered all of the necessary tools and materials for each project. The day was a total success, in large part, because of the unconditional support of the LITs.
In addition to all of this, every LIT is currently in the process of becoming a certified lifeguard and certified in CPR. This has been a major focus of our program during the second half of the July session.
In addition to the elements of the LIT program listed above, Oneida has participated in some grueling Athletic sessions that involve obstacle courses and personal training sessions with Athletics Director Rob West. Just yesterday we went on a canoe trip across the lake for lunch, led by Digital Media Specialist Mike Toma. Our evening programs have also been thoroughly entertaining for staff and campers alike. From blindfold trust walk competitions to three legged sports, as well as orienteering/ravine running through the rain, everybody is having a great time!
To add to all of this activity, this morning we are leaving camp for our trip to Camp Chingachgook on Lake George where we will camp every night. During our six days there, we will canoe, hike, sail, and climb. Words cannot express the excitement in Oneida for this incredible adventure and we are all confident that there is no better way to wrap up our first session.
