Does anyone know what Onondaga means? Some of us have been at camp for years and still don’t know. Onondaga was a Native American tribe, just like the other village names in camp (Cayuga, Mohawk, Seneca and Tuscarora) and part of the Iroquois Confederacy. The members of the tribe built their towns on hilltops, thus explaining the name Onondaga, People of the Hills.
When you come to camp on Wednesday, use this trivia to question the staff around CSL to see if they know the history of Onondaga – try asking Ari Baum or even John Golden!
The Onondaga staff (aka O-staff) has been counting down the days until the first day of camp! We have a lot of great ideas for the summer, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise so you’ll have to wait to find out! We have a big village this summer – 46 campers; we say the more the merrier! We’re so excited to see returning campers and meet all the new campers at camp. The Big-O guarantees a summer full of fun, adventure and long lasting friendships!
See you soon,
Emily Weinger, Onondaga Unit Head
