After rest hour yesterday began “Israel Day” at CSL. This was a great opportunity for the five Israeli staff members at camp to share first hand information about their experiences Israel with the entire CSL community. For the afternoon program, camp went around by village to five different stations: Culture, The People of Israel, Geography, History, and Spirituality. At each station, campers participated in a different activity, game, or discussion that had to do with life in Israel. For example, Geography was held at the basketball courts. One of the activities that took place at this station was a game of “bucket brigade” on a giant Israeli map. Campers were split into two teams and had to work together using small cups to deliver water to all of the major cities in Israel. After the game, everyone talked about the issue of water supply in Israel and how, given that there is only one fresh water source in the State, this has major implications for Israelis on a day to day basis.
Following the afternoon rotations and shower hour, everyone gathered for an Israeli feast! We had falafel, cous cous, hummus, pita, and a variety of Israeli salads. Next, all of camp split up throughout the different fields in camp and the Israeli staff led camp in four separate games of “Shnei Dgalim.” This game is an Israeli version of capture the flag with a few different twists. It was a wild success and we all had a great time. Special thanks to our Israeli staff for sharing their experiences with CSL!
