Today's Schedule, First Day of Camp, and Opening Ceremonies!

Today's Schedule:

Our First Day Together...

With 265 campers and over 100 staff members, with the opening of the August session, we welcome the largest CSL in history! We all feel so lucky to be a part of this vibrant and lively community. On the first day of camp this session, every camper went through a rotation that included unpacking in villages, a swim test, waterfront orientation, check in at the infirmary, safety discussion with Director John Golden, and a bunk picture. In spite of a questionable forecast, the weather held out for the afternoon and everything ran smoothly.

Following a spaghetti dinner, camp split up by village for the first part of the evening program. Onondaga participated in a series of icebreakers and games together, Cayuga kicked off CHL (“Cayuga Hockey League”) for the August session, Seneca participated in an exciting competition that was based on the television series, Glee, and Mohawk started an exciting season of “MAL” (Mohawk American League) tryouts.

Due to inclement weather, the next portion of the evening program was held in the O-Rec. Campers gathered and were seated for the official Opening Ceremonies of August 2010. Staff paraded into the O-Rec by village and specialty area in organized group costumes. This was a great way for campers to familiarize themselves with all of the staff in camp and start getting a better sense of everyone’s role. After the conclusion of the staff introductions, camp collectively marched down to the fire circle. John Golden was driven in from the lake to shore by jet ski with a flaming torch. He then proceeded to light the CSL 2010 fire sign, officially marking the beginning of August 2010 at CSL. We look forward to sharing these next three weeks together and the buzz around camp already confirms that this is going to be a spectacular session.
