Mohawk National League

Friday afternoon marked the first games of this season’s Mohawk National League. Despite the relative small size of this year’s Mohawk village, the athleticism of the campers guarantees that this three-team league will be one of the deepest in recent memory. The first game featured the Ropes Course Red Sox against the 2009 defending champions, The Kitchen Mets. Despite an excellent effort from the Red Sox, the Kitchen Mets started their championship defense with a key victory in their first game. Sam Bitker hit the homerun fence in left field with a 2 run blast for the Red Sox that started a late rally. In the end, however, excellent fielding and composure allowed the Mets to escape with a victory. The second game was between the Ropes Course Red Sox and the Waterfront Indians. Avery Dibble made an unbelievable catch for the Indians at catcher to end an inning, and Marty Hirschberg play at shortstop made him an early contestant for the rookie of the year award. However, the Red Sox would not be denied twice, and rallied late in order to pull to 1-1 for the year. Overall, you could not ask for a better opening to a season of Mohawk National League. It looks as if we are in store for a great four weeks of softball.
